Founded in 1960, the Lower Currituck Volunteer Fire Department is comprised of 3 different stations to provide adequate coverage in our district. Those stations are Station 1 in Powells Point. Station 2 in Waterlilly and Station 5 in Grandy. Volunteer members provide coverage from the Coinjock Bridge south to the Wright Brothers Memorial Bridge and the east to west from the Currituck Sound to the North River. Currituck County has a steady population of year round residents. We experience an increase during the spring, summer, and fall as this is the main thoroughfare for tourists traveling to the northern portion of the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
The Lower Currituck Volunteer Fire Department's mission is to contribute to the maintenance and improvements of the quality of life in Currituck County, North Carolina through the fire prevention, fire education, fire suppression, rescue or hazardous materials response, and to reduce the adverse effects of fires, life threatening medical emergencies or exposure to dangerous conditions created by either man or nature.
